It was in Zladibor (SRB) our first competition weekend for 2021, 21-24 January!
Traveled from Switzerland, after having done all the necessary covid_19 safety travel protocol, to Belgrade where Irina (of Serbia ski) was waiting for me. We drove together to Zladibor for approximately 3,5 hours. Arriving pretty late at our destination, I managed to go for relaxing jogging and do some stretching. At the dinner, I met the rest of the Greek delegation Christos, Voula, and Nefeli (classic technique lovers).
Apparently, the race program had changed a bit and the next day we had to compete in 5km classic instead of sprint skating, but that was ok to me!
It was the first race of the season so I felt that my shape was not still there. On the first day I finished 4th with 152,18 points with our fellow xc skier Timea Lorincz (ROU) being the winner of the competition. The next day, again 5km classic, sadly I did not cross the finish line. I was facing few waxing issues with my skis from the beginning of the race. That's the story behind the classic technique, kicking and gliding is equally important to succeed. The weather did not help to maintain the snow on the track, therefore the sprint race of the last day had to be canceled.
Straight after the medal ceremony, we drove to our next racing destination, in Sjenica 80km far from Zladibor.
To be continued...
Yours, Maria
